LAW-361 Trial Advocacy

This course teaches students all elements of advocacy in a criminal or quasi-criminal trial (developing a theory of the case, opening, examination-in-chief, cross-examination, dealing with exhibits and experts, objections, and closing to a jury) Each week every student will prepare and perform a short skill assignment culminating in a full day mock trial. Videotape will be used to aid in the evaluation and criticism of students’ performances. At the conclusion of the course students should have the skills necessary to prepare and conduct a short criminal trial for the Crown or defence.3 credits, winter termMr. Hutchison and Mr. Burstein PRE OR CO-REQUISITE LAW-320 Evidence and LAW-404 Criminal Procedure recommended.
