This course continues the study of engineering materials to cover plastics, ceramics, composites and specialty alloys. The focus is on mechanical properties, uses, manufacturing and processing of these advanced materials. The applications of these materials in engineering are also outlined. The effects of temperature, environment, failure mechanisms and prevention are covered. The lectures are supplemented by laboratory experiments and demonstrations.
