CIVL 457 River Morphodynamics

An overview of river morphology and morphodynamics is presented. Topics covered include: hydraulics of flow in river channels; interaction of flow with the moveable river bed and banks; mechanics and quantification of sediment transport; sediment transport continuity equation; bed forms and resistance to flow; regime (or stable) channels and their computation; river adjustments of equilibrium and related cross-sectional and planform changes, including meandering and braiding; geometry and mechanics of meandering streams; local scour and related problems.
