MECH 472 Corrosion and Failure Analysis

This course deals with material-environment interactions. Aqueous corrosion, anodic and cathodic processes and passivity; atmospheric corrosion; oxidation and the structure and properties of oxide films; conjoint phenomena, impingement, erosion, stress corrosion cracking, fretting corrosion fatigue; corrosion control by coatings; inhibition, cathodic protection, anodic protection, corrosion in relation to engineering design, code regulations, safety and economics. The course also deals with the mechanical failure of components by tensile overload, brittle fracture, fatigue, creep and stress rupture. (0/0/0/24/24)~ COURSE DELETED IN 2009/10 ~
